The Batt School

Friday July 19th 2024

Dear Diary,

Well, that’s a wrap! After 32 school visits over the last 52 school days, I’m knocking off for the summer. And what a way to end this term!!! The Batt School in Witney is beautiful… as is the market town itself. And despite the sweltering heat, it was another unforgettable day. Year 6 sadly missed out on the whole-school assembly this morning. But as they were at the cinema munching on popcorn, I don’t think there were any complaints. (I totally forgot to ask them what they watched. Whoops.) With two classes in each Year Group, we started off workshops in the hall today with Year 3. And the pupils got stuck in straightaway. The Year 4 session was no different, with so many wonderful characters being dreamt up and stories being plotted and written – at such speed! After lunch, it was the turn of Years 5 & 6. And with the weather making us melt indoors by this point, some of the children worked outside in the shade. But it didn’t affect their productivity or creativity one bit. Today’s titles were definitely some of my favourites of all the school visits I’ve done. We had stories entitled The Veggie Assassin, How Was Santa Made?, Murderous Mr Smith, Monsterifik, Mrs Magic Edwards, and Weird Onions… to name but a few! And for the first time ever, we even had a haiku and a song!!! Dan and the team offered a wonderful welcome, countless cups of tea, and lots of help throughout the day. And the pupils joined in so wholeheartedly with everything I had planned. I just wish I’d taken more certificates with me to hand out! What a magical end to a phenomenal term! I can’t wait to return next year with WARNING: May Contain Dragons.
