Dear Diary,
Today’s visit, to the John Moore Primary School in Tewkesbury, was rather topsy-turvy. Instead of starting the day with a whole-school assembly, I was straight into workshops — with my assembly not taking place until last thing. I was a little fearful that the pupils wouldn’t get stuck into the activities (due to not having the chance to get to know me first), but I needn’t have been worried!!! The Year 5 workshop (during which I had to repeatedly dash between two classrooms) started the morning off with a bang… and then a whisper. The pupils were so enthusiastic, so talented, and so silent whilst they focussed on their work! And the stories they came up with gave us all a good giggle. Year 6 then blew me and their teachers away with how outstanding their work was, too. And it warmed my heart to hear how excited the older pupils were about the certificates on offer. The pupils, staff, and I all agreed that there was no option but to photocopy some, so that EVERYONE in Year 6 could receive one. It was simply impossible to choose between all the super stories and captivating characters that were brought to life! The Year 3 & 4 workshop was bumper-sized, with all 90 pupils in the hall. But yet again, the quality of the work produced was exceptional, and certificates went flying out once more. It was lovely to have Reception and KS1 joining in for the end-of-day assembly (along with all those I’d already spent time with). And what a super audience! (I ought to apologise to the teachers for egging the pupils on to make more noise. I hadn’t realised QUITE how loud they could be. I think my ears are still ringing now!!!) It was such a super day, and I was very sad to leave. The pupils at JMPS should be so proud of themselves. They were an absolute delight to spend the day with, and a true credit to their parents and teachers. It was great to hear how much they all enjoyed the activities, too. Karen kindly organised my visit, and looked after me beautifully. But the headteacher and all the staff members helped throughout the day… right through to the craziness that ensued when the pupils descended on my free stickers and bookmarks at home time. The JMPS students gave me so many memories to treasure. I hope I get to return next year with WARNING: May Contain Dragons before the Year 6 pupils depart in July!
