Greatfield Park Primary

Thursday June 27th 2024

Dear Diary,

Another incredible visit at another phenomenal school! Today, I was at Greatfield Park Primary… less than a mile from my home. Following the normal routine, I started off with a whole-school assembly. Then it was straight on to my first workshop of the day with Year 3. It was lovely when the bell rang for break and many of the students groaned. They simply weren’t ready to stop working on their stories! My second session was with Year 4, and again there was so much excitement about the activities I had planned for them. Instead of taking ONE character prompt sheet, quite a few of the children took a handful of them… and then kept coming back for more. My longest session with Year 5 after lunch was no different. There were groups of pupils who were so taken with the characters and stories they were conjuring up together that they didn’t want to move on to activity three. My printer has certainly been busy tonight, preparing more worksheets for tomorrow’s school visit, after I came home earlier with my resources totally depleted. It truly was yet another magical day. And finally getting to meet Seb – someone who’s already read WARNING: Magic Can Be Dangerous! from start to finish and been sending me voice notes along the way – was the icing on the cake! I’m ridiculously tired after another long day (despite not being QUITE as old as Uncle John), but I do absolutely love interacting with pupils on a regular basis and seeing that reading and creative writing ARE still alive and well.
